Consoling the heart of Jesus

Good Friday meditation drawing  When Saint Therese was a little girl she had a prayer card with a painting of Jesus imprisoned in his cell looking at a single flower. This single flower was the source of his consolation. Saint Therese from those moments wished to be that flower providing comfort to our Lord throughout her life.

Just Wait

Today I read the story of Joseph and his brothers.  Are you familiar with what happened there?

There are lots of lessons to be learned.

The events found in Genesis 44 can be summarised as a young boy being thrown into a pit by his brothers due to envy.  Slave traders buy the boy and cart him off to Egypt.  There, the boy encounters a lot of pitfalls, letting him end up in prison.  (jump to HERE if you know the story)

While there, his knack for dream interpretation gets him an audience with the Pharoah who was having some puzzling, recurring dreams.

Joseph predicts correctly that the dreams mean a coming famine - and gets freed and promoted to be in charge of feeding everyone.

Now Joseph's brothers needed food and went to Egypt, unknowingly asking Joseph for it.

Instead of revenge, Joseph forgives his brothers and they are all happily reconciled!

[HERE!]

Now it's obvious that one of the lessons is not to wreak havoc upon the world by plotting revenge.  Joseph would've been a formidable enemy - his power could have been used to let his brothers starve to death!  But he didn't do it.

I think it makes a man really great, to have mercy - just like God has mercy.

"To err is human, to forgive divine." - Alexander Pope

But another thing I've learned that in the circle of life, if you just wait, circumstances will change and you will be able to help those who have been unkind to you.

This might be something ridiculous for you - to extend a hand of friendship to those who may not be worthy of it.

"Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good."  Romans 12:21

"Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Matthew 5:44

So, when the time comes, God didn't provide you that chance so that you would have the last say - but instead, He wants you to show love that comes from Him to those who desperately need it.  (If they treated you badly, it's highly likely that they have issues.)

So, just wait.  Your circumstances will constantly be changing.  Today will be different in many ways from the days before so make the most of each day and pray to just wait and be the person God wants you to be.
